چکیده

to the compounds tested, for at least an hour under the described conditions, but biologically reliable and physiologically representative results probably can be obtained for a much longer time when the reasons for tubular damage have been identified and corrected. Aside from the fact that different metabolites were studied, our experimental arrangement differed from that used in studies of the isolated perfused kidney [e.g., (3)] or in cross-perfusion studies [e.g., (4)]. We selectively catheterized one renal artery and vein and left the rest of the body circulation undisturbed. Moreover, the various instrumentation also permitted more precise monitoring and (or) control of intrarenal resistance, flow-rate, pulsatile pressure, temperature, PH, F02, and Pco, than perhaps is typically the case for such experiments. Despite this, it is instructive that the subtle homeostatic requirements of the kidney were not met in most cases. When the contralateral kidney was removed three weeks postoperatively, subsequent survival was in most cases brief, with uremia being the cause of death.

Validation of the Sulfo-phospho- Vanillin (spv) Method for the Determination of Lipid Content in Oleaginous Microorganisms

A colorimetric sulfo-phospho-vanillin (SPV) method was used to validate a high throughput method for total lipids analysis in fresh and lyophilized oleaginous microorganisms. This method uses a small amount of biological material, does not require a lot of sample manipulation, can be automated, is reproducible and easy to implement. A 96-well microplate SPV assay allows one to determine quickly...

The photometric determination of gangliosides with the sulfo-phospho-vanillin reaction.

A simple, quantitative method is described for the photometric determination of gangliosides. The procedure is based on the sulfo-phospho-vanillin reaction, and does not require prior hydrolysis. It has been shown that the reaction is probably due to oxidation by sulfuric acid of the sphingosine moiety which results in the formation of aldehydes or ketones or both which then react with the phos...

Rapid determination of total lipids in mosquitoes.

Total lipids in individual mosquitoes can be determined by extraction with chloroform-methanol followed by reaction with sulfuric acid and a vanillin-phosphoric acid reagent. By subtracting the lipids determined in a starved population, the method is suitable to establish variations of lipid reserves in field populations.

Gabapentin Determination in Human Plasma and Capsule by Coupling of Solid Phase Extraction, Derivatization Reaction, and UV-Vis Spectrophotometry

Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant widely used in the treatment of epilepsy. No peculiar chromophore is available on the gabapentin moiety for direct analysis by absorption spectrophotometry. A sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of gabapentin in bulk, pharmaceutical formulations and human plasma has been developed. In this method, gabapentin directly derivatized with vanilli...
